Need to wash hair or nah?

I swear by using coconut oil as a pre-shampoo treatment, but I'm not sure about this one. Does your hair need to be freshly washed first?

I usually go a few days between washes and still have styling products in my hair. Can I just slap on the coconut oil overnight on that "day 3" hair and wash it out the next morning? Or would it work better on clean, product-free hair? Anyone try both ways?

You don't need to have freshly washed hair for it to work. I've put it on day 3 hair with product buildup plenty of times and it still does its thing. It might not penetrate quite as deeply with a ton of product in the way, but you'll still get that softness and shine after you wash it out.

Aanyway, if you're doing a heavier treatment or your hair feels super gunked up, it can help to do a light cleanse first just a quick rinse or gentle shampoo to clear the surface. But honestly, I usually just coat it on, throw it in a braid, and let it do its thing overnight.

Why do you prefer applying coconut oil on day 3 instead of freshly washed hair? have you noticed a difference in how it works on product-free hair versus hair with styling products

I haven't tried using coconut oil, I think it will work on clean hair. but does it say to leave it overnight? i can feel the grease on my pillow. haha! usually, i just leave it on for a few minutes but that's just me
